Almost “The Old Haunt”

The Old Haunt is a recipe from Anders Erickson:
1.5 oz (45 ml) Laird’s Straight Apple Brandy BIB
1/2 oz (15 ml) Amaro Averna
1/4 oz (7.5 ml) rich Demerara syrup (2:1)
2 dashes Fee Brothers Black Walnut Bitters
Smoked lowball glass
Expressed orange oil

I substituted Amaro Lucano for the Averna and a demerara sugar cube instead of making syrup, omitted the orange oil due to lack of oranges in the house. Also went 2oz of the Apple Brandy and 3/4 of the Lucano.

I used a pellet from the smoker to make some smoke to fill the glass. Definitely imparted its flavor on the drink!

It’s good, will make it again, but probably with the orange oil.

Fucking Dangerous

1 1/2 oz Wray & Nephew Overproof white rum
1/2 oz Luxardo Maraschino
1 oz grapefruit juice (ruby red, recommended)
1 oz pineapple juice
1/8 oz pomegranate molasses (dilute with water 1:1)
1 oz Orgeat
1/4 oz 1:1 simple syrup
1/8 oz RE:find Kumquat Liqueur

Shake, free pour into tiki type mug. Garnish with whatever makes you happy.

In making this, Anna said that it was Fucking Dangerous.

Grapefruit/Rosemary Syrup

This is a nice syrup that goes with most base spirits.

Peels from a grapefruit (or two if they’re small)
A few sprigs of fresh rosemary
1 part Water (200ml)
1.5 part Sugar (300ml)

In pot, combine ingredients and bring to a simmer. Keep heat but don’t let it boil for 15-30 minutes. It’ll make the house smell nice. Strain out the solids and cool. Should probably use it a couple weeks after making it.
